How to Use This Calculator
The Position Size Calculator is an essential risk management tool for traders. Enter your total account size, the maximum percentage of your account you are willing to risk on this trade, your planned entry price, and your stop-loss price. The calculator will determine exactly how many shares you should buy to stay within your risk limits.
Formula
Risk Amount = Account Size Γ (Risk Percentage / 100)
Risk Per Share = |Entry Price - Stop Loss Price|
Position Size = Risk Amount / Risk Per Share
Example
If you have a $10,000 account and want to risk 1%, your risk amount is $100. If you buy a stock at $50 and place a stop loss at $48, your risk per share is $2.
To find the position size: $100 / $2 = 50 shares.
